"It's common to find youth lacking goal in life," — Marcelo was just like that before he decided to #ChooseSport to guide him in life. Now, as a sports trainer, he motivates young people from marginalized communities to improve themselves and achieve their goals.

After being a professional dancer for many years, Nildo Muniz changed his career path and became a policeman. However, he never abandoned his passion for dance. To date, he carries out a social project in Miécimo da Silva Sports Center in Rio de Janeiro where he teaches children ballet and helps them become stronger in sports and in life.

‘Line Up, Live Up’ – an initiative which teaches life skills to at-risk youth under UNODC’s Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration – showcases the good practice of using sport to guide and empower young lives from unprivileged communities by developing essential skills that let them stay away from violence, crime and drug use.

Following the steps of this global initiative, #ChooseSport is a series of one-minute short videos that profile youth across the world who have gone through a transformation with sports and the trainers who promote this approach. Each episode tells the story of either a coach/mentor/trainer or a young person who faced different circumstances and challenges, and whose life went into a new direction by learning about discipline, respect and teamwork from sports trainings.

On this International Day of Non-Violence, support the #ChooseSport movement as it advocates for the power of sport to uplift lives and communities, and to build a more peaceful world. Share these messages on social media and, take a step even further by telling us your life-changing story when you #ChooseSport.
